1. I Spy- Fun Road Trip Games
One that you might remember from when you were younger, I spy is a road trip classic and while it might not be the most exciting, it’s amazing if you have some time to kill and want to take in your surroundings. The premise is simple, one player chooses something they’ve seen, and can still see, only telling the other player the first letter of what it is. Hopefully, you have a good window tint to protect from the heat and harmful damage from the sun.
The other player then has to use their visual and detective skills to try and guess what it is. It’s simple, with the player having as many tries as they want, though you could introduce a limit of how many guesses they have if you want to make it a little more competitive. You could also introduce a prize if the player is able to guess correctly on their first try, for example.
2. The License Plate Game
Another one that will keep you entertained for a while on long journeys, is the license plate game. It is one that can be played with as many people as you want in the car and is perfect if you’re traveling, you’ll love it. All you need to do is try and find all of the different license plates from the different states that are on your route, or even better, all of them if you’re feeling really ambitious.
You could make it a race to see who can find the most unique ones, or who can find them all first, just to add an extra competitive edge to proceedings. This game could also be kept going throughout your whole road trip until the very end so it’s something that everyone can get involved in no matter how long your journey might be. It’s easy enough for everyone to understand and play so give it a go!
3. Road Trip Bingo
Car bingo is another classic game that has been given a road trip twist in order to make things more interesting than just looking out of the window for hours at a time. If you’re not familiar with bingo you need to know there are plenty of ways to play, but we’ll just give a brief overview here so that you know what you need to do. Essentially, each player gets their own bingo card which has different items on it such as animals or objects which they might see when driving down the road.
Players then have to cross these items off when they spot them and once they’ve managed to cross off everything on their card they then shout ‘bingo!’ The first person to do this wins! You could also play by getting certain patterns instead of having everything crossed off, so there’s scope for playing around with rules in order to make it more fun and exciting for everyone involved.
4. 20 Questions
20 questions is a fantastic game that can be played by anyone no matter how old they are or how much experience they have with games like this. One player thinks of an object, person, or place while the other player tries to guess what it is by asking up to 20 yes/no questions about it. It sounds simple but can actually be quite difficult depending on how good the other player is at thinking up clues.
This game is perfect for those who want to test their mental prowess and see how well they can do under pressure while also enjoying some friendly competition with the other people in the car. This game isn’t too hard, but you’ll definitely have to use your detective skills if you want to do well and guess what the chosen object, person, or place is.
5. The Alphabet Game
The alphabet game is one that will have everyone in the car on the edge of their seats as you try to think of different things, places, or people for each letter of the alphabet in quick succession. Road trips are getting more expensive so having a game to play, that’s free and fun to do, is definitely worth playing if it keeps everybody happy.
This game is perfect for those who want to test their knowledge and see how well they know their stuff, as well as for those who want to learn more about different things.
